Introduction to QGIS Training (2 days)
Note:
To meet the client's request while taking their time constraint into consideration, we have introduced a 2-day "Introduction to QGIS" training course, with no change to the course content, ensuring that we meet our training objectives.
Course Outline
This two-day course provides a conceptual overview and hands-on experience using QGIS software. It teaches basic QGIS functionality and enables participants to quickly take advantage of the software’s powerful display and analysis capabilities. Attendees are introduced to the QGIS GUI and use QGIS to create, edit, display, query, and analyze geographic and tabular data and create presentation-quality maps and charts.
Prerequisites
Introduction to QGIS is for those with little or no desktop mapping or GIS experience; however, registrants should know how to use windowing software.
Class Attendees Learn How to:
- 1. Display data in a view.
- 2. Create and edit data.
- 3. Query a database.
- 4. Perform geocoding.
- 5. Create maps for presentation.
Topics covered QGIS
Overview:
- 1. Capabilities and applications.
- 2. Interacting with the QGIS GUI.
- 3. Projects and documents.
- 4. Using QGIS online help.
- 1. Creating views to display geo-graphic data (layers).
- 2. Creating layers from x, y coordinates.
- 3. Setting a view’s map projection.
- 4. Manipulating the symbology and classification scheme for each layer.
- 5. Labeling layers.
QGIS Tables:
- 1. Creating an QGIS table from a variety of tabular data sources.
- 2. Selecting from a table.
- 3. Joining and linking multiple tables.
- 4. Modifying the structure of a table.
- 5. Editing values in a table.
- 6. Creating a chart for presenting tabular data.
Creating and Editing Layers:
- 1. Using QGIS to create ShapeFiles.
- 2. Adding and editing ShapeFile features.
- 3. Updating attribute information.
Spatial Query and Analysis:
- 1. Selecting features based on relation-ships between multiple layers.
- 2. Merging layer features.
QGIS Layouts:
- 1. Creating a final map for presentation and printing.
- 2. Combining views, tables, charts, images, north arrows, logos, and scale bars to create a final map.
Georeferencing with QGIS:
1. Referencing images has always been one of the critical tasks on a GIS platform. QGIS can make it easy job for you through its tools.
Adjusting Vectors with QGIS:
1. Adjusting vectors can be done through different ways, this includes shifting rotating and scaling the data. Of course such operation would be carried out using the Affine transformation tools.
Topology with QGIS:
1. Cleaning the data is now easy with QGIS opensource software, we will look into how to find several errors on a map, then fix the errors with ease.
