Thanks to everyone for the many responses I received. The easiest way I found to convert ASCII points from lat/long-WGS84 (GPS output) to an arcview shapefile was the following: 1st, convert the data to UTM-NAD 27 using the corpscon coordinate conversion program (I used NAD83 as a proxy for WGS84 - sufficient for my needed level of precision). Then I used the arcview sample script "GPS2SHP.AVE" which comes with arcview to bring in the data. The script allows you to select whether you want to create a point, line, or polygon shapefile. It worked slick as can be. The web address for corpscon is: http://crunch.tec.army.mil/software/corpscon/corpscon.html Cheers, Chris Colt >> I have a list of X Y points in a ASCII file (collected using Fugawi software and a gps unit) and would like to convert it to a line shapefile in arcview. Can this be done? What is the best way to bring this data in. It is currently in WGS84 lat/long, but I can put it in any necessary datum/format. >>Chris Colt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Colt Habitat Biologist/GIS Specialist Utah Division of Wildlife 475 W.
