Sorry for the delay in summarising I was waiting to hear back on a service request about this. I'm still waiting mind - but felt that I should let the list know my findings to date. Original question is attached at the end of this post. It would seem that the short answer is that it can't be done!!! The root of the issue is that AI TIN and AV 3D Analyst are not true 3D but only "2 1/2 D" and as such do not handle 3D solids (N.B. 3D solids are not the same as 3D shapes or surfaces) Thanks anyway to all those who replied especially Neil Dingle, Alberto Antinori & Heinz Reitner, and to all the many more "Out-of-Office assistants that also replied. Possible solutions included:- * Exploding all (or at least unread) entities in AutoCAD * A lisp script to supposedly convert the file to something AV could read * And of course a pointer to the ESRI web site. All of these I tried but with no success but thanks all the same.
