Hi ArcView-L, The following is a summary for converting ArcView shp files to AutoCAD dxf/dwg files preserving the x,y,z values. Orginal Question: I have a shape file containing polylines representing surface topography. Besides the typical theme fields, the shape file also contains the following two fields called "Zvalue" and "Elev". I would like to: (1) Convert the shape file to an AutoCAD dxf file where the theme's polyline atributes x, y, and elev values become AutoCAD's polyline x, y, and z values. and/or (2) Output the shape file to an ascii xyz text file containing the theme's polyline atributes x, y, and elev values for each record Solution: I downloaded the trial version of a program called Arcv2CAD from Guthrie CAD/GIS Software. This stand-alone program allowed me to convert the contours.shp file directly to an AutoCAD dwg file (converting the shp file's "Zelev" attributes to x,y,z values of the AutoCAD polyline object). The 20MB shp file was converted in less than a minute. This program can do alot more. Check out the website: http://www.guthcad.com.au for more information. Thanks to Paul Guthrie at Guthrie CAD/GIS Software for an excellent product well worth the money. ----------------------- Frank Ciuffreda
